As always, I love this place. My appointment is usually at 6:15 AM. I go through a few steps, the eye test and the dilation and then another test before I see the doctor and I’m normally there 23 hours but yesterday was wonderful. I was there an hour and a half and everything was completed the team there is remarkable they get you in and get you out and Dr Powers is such a lovely man so good with his patience. I would advise anybody in need to go to Dr Powers.Posted on Google![]()

Personally I don't like going to the eye doctor. I just hate messing with my eyes but I have to say honestly that I haven't felt comfortable with any other eye doctor or company. The staff at the Clearwater office is the best. I've seen just a few of the staff come and go and whoever is doing the hiring has a real eye for great employees because all I've ever experienced is courtesy, patience and great care there. I can't say enough good things about Dr Powers.. He's very mannerable, patient and personable. The one thing that impressed me the most the first time we met is that he came in with a big genuine smile and he shook my hand. Many doctors won't even touch you if it's not necessary. I hope I never have to switch.

What Medicare Part B pays for, and how often you’re covered.

Quick answers to what diabetic and senior patients ask us most.
Diabetes can quietly damage the tiny blood vessels in the back of your eye — a condition called diabetic retinopathy — and it also raises your risk of glaucoma and other serious eye conditions. The hard part is there are often no symptoms until damage is done, which is why a yearly dilated exam matters so much.
Yes. If you have diabetes, Medicare Part B covers a yearly dilated eye exam to screen for diabetic eye disease. We accept Medicare and will confirm your coverage for you.
At least once a year. Diabetes can affect your eyes with no early warning signs, so an annual dilated exam is the best way to catch changes early. If we find anything, Dr. Powers may recommend more frequent visits.
Your insurance card, a photo ID, a list of your current medications, your glasses or contacts, and any records from a previous eye doctor if you have them.
A diabetic eye exam usually includes dilation, which can leave your vision blurry and light-sensitive for a few hours. We recommend bringing sunglasses and, if you tend to be sensitive, arranging for someone to drive you home.
Plan for a thorough visit rather than a quick in-and-out. We run complete diagnostic testing and Dr. Powers personally reviews your results with you, so appointments can run longer than a routine checkup — especially on busier days. We’re always working to keep your wait as short as we can, but we’d rather give your eyes the time they deserve than rush your care.
We accept Medicare, Medicaid, and most major plans — including Florida Blue/BCBS, Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Humana, and more. We’ll verify your specific plan for you; just ask when you call.
Yes — all three offices (New Port Richey, Clearwater, and St. Petersburg) are welcoming new diabetic and senior patients. Request an appointment online or call (727) 738-5900.
New patients are always welcome at all three locations. Fill out the form below — just choose your location — and our front desk will reach out to confirm, usually the same day. Prefer to talk to a person? Call (727) 738-5900.
